A DESIGN SHOWCASING THE LUSTROUS JEWEL TONES OF SAPPHIRE, EMERALD, JADE, MALACHITE AND BLACK OPAL

Our client, a Sydney jeweller working exclusively on bespoke commissioned pieces that are expressions of pure love and affection, knows exactly what it feels like when you “just have to have it”, and so it was with Phillip Jeffries iconic Flight wallpaper.

Mi Designer sketched out her vision for an extensive makeover of her Northbridge residence which sits with the glittering harbour spread before it and views across Middle Harbour from its perch on the highside of one of Sydney’s most desirable waterfront suburbs. But she always knew that Jeffries graceful cranes, swooping and floating across a textured sapphire backdrop would create the drama.

“She was an awesome client, creative at heart and brave enough to give us a wide brief to bring a blank canvas to life,” says Lucy. “She owned a modern home so at the outset we had big spaces, lots of straight lines and hard edges. She wanted to bring her personality and love of adornment into the home, so we responded by incorporating multiple layers of interest and detail into the spaces – cornices, skirting boards, chair rails and marble inlaid floors.”

Mi Designer drew their colour palette from nature’s most precious materials which are her stock in trade. There are lustrous jewel tones of sapphire; emerald and jade in the cabinetry, diamond notes in the cut crystal handles in tapware across the powder rooms and laundry and sheets of black opal inspired the striking kitchen cabinetry with inlaid fluted glass insets. A striking malachite-edge mirror casts a bold frame against whimsical Lotus leaf feature wallpaper in the bathroom.

With the majestic cranes cast as the star of the show in the main living room, they are beautifully supported by a King Living mezzaluna shaped couch in deep sapphire blue. Kelly Wearstler Graffito textiles add a textural, hand-finished feel sitting in playful contrast with a zinc centerpiece coffee table and anchored by the circular custom floor rug.

As a luxury artisan herself, the owner has a sharp eye for beauty and precision which the Mi Designer team has translated into another Sydney jewel.
