Alison Lodge

Alison Lodge is modern and vibrant, offering boutique accommodation at affordable prices in Randwick, Sydney. Nestled within walking distance to the University of NSW (UNSW), the Prince of Wales Hospital and the Sydney Children’s Hospital. Alison Lodge is only a short walk to The Spot, where you will find plenty of restaurants, cafes and specialty stores. Alison Lodge is a family owned business with 16 properties within the group, located through out the eastern suburbs. The building is circa 1901 having once been a mansion before being converted to hotel accommodation more than 60 years ago. Situated on Alison Road, which takes you past Sydney landmarks like Randwick racecourse down to famous Bondi beach, from turf to sand and everything in between the lodge is popular with overseas & business travellers, as well university lecturers.

We completed a front door to back door refurbishment while in a 3 month close down. Every thing was updated, refreshed and replaced. No tile or wall was left untouched. Joinery, painting throughout, every bathroom completely gutted and reimagined as well as all the shared common areas, hallways, kitchen, reception and the foyer. During the renovation we found historical treasures from a by gone era – decorative fireplace hearths, enclosed doorways and hidden stained glassed windows…. if only the walls could talk…

With the clientele being slightly more conservative than some of the groups more coastal or city locations, we choose a calm and soothing palette. Our foundation colours were grey with crisp white highlights and then taking colour hues from the coastline, we injected a darker grey through to a sea mist blue. Overall the result has been more than pleasing for both the client and the guests staying at the lodge. Often guests as stating for long periods of time as they have a family member seeking prolonged treatment at the one of the nearby hospitals – the calming use of colour reduces stress, fatigue and enhances clarity. All important emotions to harness while supporting a loved one.

Staff retention has increased as well as a significant uplift in returning guests and referrals. This is our second project for this group and we look forward to working with this client on the next project.
